How long does it take to get a Dental Crown?

How long does it take to get a Dental Crown?

Dr. Tom Meyer, cosmetic dentist in Mt Prospect, explains the process of getting a dental crown!

Your dentist gave you the news….you need a dental crown. The last time you had one, you had to wait for 2 weeks for the crown to be created in a lab and had the hassle of trying to chew with the temporary one. You have questions about crowns, such as, have crowns changed since you got your last one? How long does it take to get a dental crown? Are there differences in the quality of crowns? How do you find the right dentist to do your crown? Understandably, you are hesitating to get your crown because you want more clarity and answers to your questions.

Getting dental crowns at other dentists can be a long process with multiple visits, as well as inconvenient and uncomfortable. At Meyer Dental Group, we believe that getting a crown should be straight forward, pain free and with minimal appointments.

How can Meyer Dental Group help?

In your pursuit of a better quality of life, you deserve assistance from Dr. Tom Meyer who:

  1. Has 25+ years of dental experience, including dental implant/dentures solutions
  2. Is a Mastership Member of the International College of Craniomandibular Orthopedics
  3. Is a Member of the American Dental Society

Dr. Tom Meyer has enjoyed practicing dentistry in the Chicago area since 1993. He proudly continues to provide excellent care to the community as his father did the generation before him. With over 25 years experience as a dentist, he has treated hundreds of patients with safe crowns and uses the most cutting edge technology for diagnosis and treatments.

Dental crowns are used to restore chipped, damaged, or missing teeth. They are also used when there is a dental emergency, a root canal, or when decay in a tooth has reached the point where there is more filling than tooth. Your tooth is reshaped to accept a crown which is a replica of your tooth that fits over what remains of your tooth, or they can be placed on a dental implant. Crowns can be made of metal, porcelain, resin or ceramic. At Meyer Dental Group, we only use the safest materials to provide strong quality crowns.

Meyer Dental Group in Mt. Prospect offers the “One-Day Crown”

Typically, dental crown treatment involves two visits for the patient. At the first appointment, the dentist obtains a mold of the tooth to send to the lab to create the crown, and then prepares the tooth for the crown. The patient is fitted with a temporary crown and usually returns two weeks later to receive the permanent crown.

The good news is that technological advances now make it possible for technologically advanced dentists to do your crown in one visit! As a Cerec-certified dentist, Dr. Meyer has the training, experience and the Cerec equipment to create the permanent crown in less time – and on the first visit! The one day crown (or same day crown) eliminates the need for a second visit and the challenges of sensitivity and poor chewing which can occur with the temporary crown in between visits all in Mt. Prospect.

Getting a crown at Meyer Dental Group:

  • no return visits for crown placements – walk in and walk out with it all complete
  • no getting numb (injections) again at a second visit
  • relaxation time in a massage chair while your crown is milling  🙂

How Long Does Invisalign Take to Straighten Teeth? Your Questions Answered

How Long Does Invisalign Take to Straighten Teeth? Your Questions Answered

Have you considered getting your teeth straightened but still aren’t 100% sure if you should invest in it?

You’re not alone.

I’ve met a lot of people who like the idea of a straighter smile but hesitate to take action.

They aren’t sure what kind of braces to get. They’re concerned that the process will take too long. And they worry that it will be difficult to talk and eat, not to mention how hard it might be to practice good homecare.

Those questions and concerns are perfectly valid. Investing in orthodontics is a major commitment of both time and money.

To help you determine what course of action is best for you, I thought I’d answer some common questions we hear regularly in our Mount Prospect dental office.

Life with Invisalign – How Long Does Invisalign Take to Straighten Teeth and Other FAQs

How Long Does Invisalign Take to Straighten Teeth?

Typically, Invisalign is 50% faster than traditional braces. The average adult can be out of treatment within 12 months.

Of course, some cases are more difficult than others and require more time. Some people wear Invisalign aligners just as long as people in traditional braces.

When you have an Invisalign assessment, we’ll be able to determine how long your course of treatment will need to be.

Will Invisalign Work for Me?

This question requires more than a “yes” or “no” answer.

Each person is unique and has their individual needs.

People who have jawbone issues – like a crossbite, overbite, or underbite – are usually better candidates for traditional braces.

Many patients, though, respond well to the Invisalign process.

Here’s a little preview of how Invisalign works.

How Will the Invisalign Aligners Impact My Daily Life and Speech?

You’ll need to wear the aligners most of the day. In fact, the only time you should remove them is to eat or to brush and floss your teeth.

While the aligners aren’t super bulky, they will take some getting used to. However, it doesn’t take long before you’ll be talking like normal. Some people even forget they’re wearing them.

Do You Want a Healthy, Straighter, Gleaming Smile?

The next question you need to consider when making this decision is: Do you want to feel confident about your smile? how long does invisalign take

That may seem like a silly question. After all – who doesn’t want a nice smile? Let me assure you – you are worth the investment.

You have to look beyond the cosmetic components of orthodontics and look at the practical ones.

For example, straighter teeth make it easier to brush and floss, thereby reducing the risk of decay and gum disease.

That alone justifies the Invisalign cost for many.

We Believe You Deserve a Beautiful Smile and Want to Give You a Free Gift

Dental Health for Seniors: Simple Solutions Workshop by Dr. Tom Meyer

Dental Health for Seniors: Simple Solutions Workshop by Dr. Tom Meyer

Wednesday, May 16
10:00 AM to 11:15 AM
Frisbie Senior Center
52 Northwest Hwy
Des Plaines IL 60016

  • Do you have a lack of saliva?
  • Do you have trouble swallowing?
  • Do you take medications?
  • Do you miss eating certain foods?
  • Are you skipping meals because it is difficult to chew?
  • Do you have arthritis?
  • Do you have diabetes?

At our upcoming workshop at the Frisbie Senior Center in Des Plaines, I’ll be sharing many simple solutions to maximize your dental health and in turn your overall health.

These include the importance of managing dry mouth and how missing teeth can impact your health and confidence, amongst other topics pertinent to seniors’ oral health.

My goal is to show you that there are simple solutions to your dental needs and concerns.  Here’s a preview of what I’ll discuss. I hope you’ll be able to make this free event!

Dental Health for Seniors – Why We Need to Work Together to Manage Dry Mouth

Dry mouth, also known as xerostomia, is the bane of many seniors. In fact, the majority deal with it on a daily basis. It’s uncomfortable and makes eating and talking difficult.

And yet, I find that many people who come to my Des Plaines/Mount Prospect dentist office haven’t had this issue addressed. One of the main reasons this happens is because it’s often overlooked by the patients themselves or their caretakers.Happy elderly couple having breakfast in kitchen, smiling at camera.

Chronic dry mouth is an issue that should be addressed immediately. Xerostomia (dry mouth) can lead to significant health problems, including:

  • Dental caries and increased plaque
  • Oral candidiasis
  • Inflammation of the gums and mucosa
  • Difficulty speaking, eating, and swallowing
  • Painful tongue and taste disorders
  • Burning and stinging sensations in the mouth
  • Difficulty wearing dentures due to lack of lubrication from saliva

This is one of the main topics I’ll be discussing at my Simple Dental Solutions workshop. I’ll explain why seniors suffer with dry mouth (medications!) and I’ll also outline simple, refreshing ways to overcome symptoms.

Missing Teeth or Ill-Fitting Dentures Can Impact a Senior’s Overall Health and Confidence

Another topic I’ll be discussing at the workshop is missing teeth and dealing with ill-fitting dentures.

Studies have shown just how impactful losing a tooth can be on a person’s self-esteem.

Just because a person is in their golden years doesn’t mean that they aren’t affected by aesthetics. We should all be able to feel great about the way we look – at any age. woman-foy-dentures

Beyond our confidence level, we have to think about our health.

Losing a tooth can lead to jawbone recession. There’s nothing holding the jawbone in place or providing vital nutrients to it. When that happens, the jawbone shrinks. This can make eating and talking difficult.

What’s Wrong with Traditional Dentures?

Many seniors have expressed that they cannot stand wearing their dentures.

Traditional dentures can have a tendency of making people look older. For some, they are the answer to missing teeth. But for the advantages they offer (i.e. biting and chewing), dentures lack one important quality. They do not stimulate the jawbone. They offer no help to reduce the look of aging.

Essentially, the jaw ignores traditional dentures and continues to regress. The result of jaw bone resorption is the “sunken” appearance of the mouth and the chin.

At the Simple Dental Solutions Workshop, we dive into  how The Denture Fountain of Youth™ can give you back your youthful appearance and teeth that let you talk, eat, laugh, and smile  – knowing they are secure.

We Believe That All Seniors Deserve the Very Best in Dental Care

You can come to the Des Plaines Frisbie Center anytime between 10:00 AM to 11:15 AM to learn how you can eat, drink, and smile better with dentures and how to relieve health concerns such as dry mouth.

Afterwards, there will be a chance for you to ask questions. We are happy to discuss dental options for you that tailor to your specific and personalized goals.

We will have light breakfast treats and refreshments available for all to enjoy.

Children’s Dental Health Month: Dr. Tom’s Tips for Kids and Their Parents

Children’s Dental Health Month: Dr. Tom’s Tips for Kids and Their Parents

February is National Children’s Dental Health Month. Though the month is nearing its end, there’s still plenty we can do to promote dental health.

It is my goal to educate kids and parents help make next checkup a cavity-free one. I hope that these tips will lead to exceptional dental health for years to come.

If any of them are new to you or your kids, make sure to exercise patience. After all, you’re both developing a new habit – and we all know how long those can take to form!

10 Dental Tips to Remember or to Start

Here are some steps you can take to improve your children’s dental health during Children’s Dental Health Month.

  1. A child should see a dentist by the time they’re two years old to prevent cavities.
  2. Avoid putting your child to bed with a bottle, unless it’s full of water. Milk or juice can lead to baby bottle tooth decay.
  3. How long should you help your children brush their teeth? My rule of thumb: Help them brush until they’re able to tie their shoes alone.
  4. Make sure everyone in the family brushes their teeth for two minutes twice a day. Provide your children with fluoridated toothpaste. Make sure they use it whenever they brush.
  5. Floss at least once every day.
  6. Avoid giving your children sugary drinks, such as juice and soda pop.
  7. If you do give your kids sugary drinks as a treat, never put them in a sippy cup.
  8. Get your kids into my Mount Prospect and Des Plaines dentist office for sealants. It’s a great way to prevent decay.
  9. The deep cracks in the back teeth are hard to clean. Sealants form a protective barrier that prevents bacteria from getting into them.
  10. If you have an active child, we should make them a mouthguard. Wearing a guard while participating in sports can cushion blows. Without them, a hit to the mouth could result in broken teeth, injuries to the lips, and even jaw fractures.

Dentistry for Kids – Why Your Child Needs Regular Dental Checkups

Dental home care is important for everyone in the family. But it is only one piece of the puzzle. Another important part is setting up regular dental cleanings and examinations with Dr. Tom Meyer in Mount Prospect.

Dentistry for kids is vital to their overall dental health – not just now, but into the future.

A bi-annual checkup is the perfect way to make sure your child’s smile remains healthy. During this check-up they can receive an expert teeth cleaning from a skilled dental hygienist to achieve a high level of cleanliness.

Professional cleanings can get rid of built up plaque and tartar that you wouldn’t be able to clean yourself with a toothbrush. These cleanings can help prevent cavities, tooth decay, and other problems that can pop up from poor dental hygiene.

This could save you the time and cost of getting fillings or having other procedures done.

We can also offer you diagnostic tests with our arsenal of advanced dental technology. These tests are an excellent way to ensure you do not have any serious health concerns.

For example, diagnostic testing such as DIAGNODent laser therapy and digital x-rays can help us detect cavities and Vizilite screening can help catch oral cancer before it becomes a serious risk.

It’s always better to discover it sooner rather than later.

Other dental concerns we look for at our Mount Prospect dental office:

Monitoring a child’s dental health every six month allows me to be proactive. I can catch decay earlier, which means the treatment will be easier on your child.

I can see if their teeth are forming properly and evaluate whether they’re coming in the way they should. If not, we can take steps to care for your child’s needs sooner rather than later.

If a child doesn’t receive the treatment they need, they could end up with bigger issues down the road. These issues can be more costly and can possibly lead to discomfort or pain. It’s so much better to catch and treat dental issues early.

We Believe… Your Child Deserves the Very Best

As parents, we want to take care of all of our child’s needs.

At Meyer Dental Group, you can be rest assured that we will treat your child as if they were our own. We believe that every child deserves the very best health and dental care. It is the goal and mission of every single person on my dental team to provide dentistry for kids in a kind and caring manner.

Has your child seen a dentist in the past six months? If so, is their next cleaning scheduled? Regular dental examinations and cleanings are vital to your child’s health. Contact us today to set up an appointment.
