We Believe That…
TMJ related ear pain can have a dental solution
Is something ringing in your ears? Sometimes there are circumstances when your own doctor can’t quite work out what is wrong. If you have been experiencing a ringing in your ears accompanied by ear pain and haven’t been able to have it diagnosed or treated satisfactorily yet, it may have a dental solution.
If the pain in your ears just doesn’t seem to go away permanently, it could be because it is related to a problem in your temporomandibular joint (TMJ) which needs to be dealt with first.
This is where we believe at the Meyer Dental Group that we can help to relieve these painful symptoms by assessing your possible jaw disorder and devising a strategy to deal with it once and for all.
Treat the cause – not the symptoms!
One of the problems with a fault in the important jaw joint we use for biting chewing, eating and talking – the TMJ – is that it can cause a number of seemingly unrelated symptoms and these are often addressed separately rather than treating what is causing them.
If you have not yet had a proper diagnosis, we here at the Meyer Dental group can assess your ear pain and any other symptoms of TMJ disorder. TMJ sufferers may experience a range of other symptoms, such as tingling, dizziness, an inability to get a good night’s sleep, headaches or migraines, back, neck and facial pain.
A problem with the TMJ may be caused initially by a misaligned jaw which often results in what is known as “bad bite”. The two sets of teeth don’t quite match as you bite them together, causing a strain on the jaw joints. The trigeminal nerve that passes close to these joints can be affected and pass on the problem to other parts of the body, including the ears.
Fortunately, we at the Meyer Dental Group are trained in dealing with TMJ related issues there is no reason why you should endure these symptoms forever.
TMJ treatment to the rescue

There are a number of approaches that can be used to help address the disorder. You may receive
You may receive gentle electrical stimulation of the muscles that control the jaw. This can help to relax the muscles and make movement less painful.
A custom made appliance called an orthotic may be suggested. It is worn over the teeth and gently repositions your jaw into a more comfortable position.
If the position of your teeth have been a cause for a TMJ ear pain problem, there may be other procedures which cam be suggested, including the use of braces to improve your bite.
