2012 ICCOM Meeting

As the program chair, I am scheduled to participate in a lecture at the 2012 American Section Bernard Jankelson Forum of the College of Cranio-Mandibular Orthopedics this October 26th and 27th. The title of my lecture is “Orthodontics and Its Application in Treating Cranio-Mandibular Disease.”

I'm very excited to have such an active role in this prestigious meeting as I am in a field of 12 other dentists from around the United States and Canada. It has been a rewarding experience already and the meeting is still 5 months away! I will be interacting with some of the brightest and most progressive dentists in the country on the subject of Temporo-Mandibular Dysfunction/Disease. Stay tuned…more entries to come!

The Magic Wand

Did you know it is estimated that nearly 50% of the U.S. population alone experiences some dental anxiety when facing restorative appointments? If you fall into that category, do not feel alone! At the Meyer Dental Group, we strive to make sure our patients are as comfortable and relaxed as possible. With that goal always in mind, earlier this year we implemented The Wand into our practice. The Wand is a computer-controlled dental injection allowing a slow, steady and more comfortable injection. With its slender, ball point pen appearance, it does not even look like the typical dental anesthetic syringe!

Some advantages of The Wand are:
1. No more syringe looking injections which can appear a little intimidating at first – with this pen-like hand piece, it won’t even look like you are getting an injection!
2. Less anesthetic is given, without losing the effectiveness of complete numbness in the area being worked on. This means limited length of profound anesthesia after the appointment!
3. Gives consistent comfortable, anxiety-free injections

Look for the “Magic Wand” at your next restorative appointment as we continue to strive for anxiety-free and more comfortable visits for you!

USA Today's PPM write up

Hello everyone!

USA Today has published a front page article on the PPM mouthguard/appliance about how it works, and the impact it has had for several athletes. With a strong background in neurmuscular dentistry, Dr. Meyer can fit you for a PPM athletic mouthpiece right here at Meyer Dental! If you go on the PPM website, www.ppmmouthguard.com or www.makkaradvantage.com, (on the top bar, click on "What is PPM?) and it lists the four different types of appliances and how they are fitted, along with the fee for the appliance. Depending on what personal level of athletic training you are at and what the appliance will be used for, will determine which appliance is best for you.
